Spanish for Specific Purposes

We currently offer the courses SP203 Intermediate Business Spanish and SP303 Advanced Business Spanish. These courses are ideal for Business, International Business, Management and Marketing majors. They are theme based Spanish Language courses which integrate both language content and content based learning.

Intermediate Business Spanish

This class focuses on the usage of Spanish at the intermediate level. Students learn with specific tasks the conjugation of present tenses of regular and irregular verbs. The main focus is on the strategies needed for the narration: usage of appropriate connectors and all past tenses (preterite, imperfect, present perfect, and pluperfect indicative). They write weekly on a personal diary explaining the intercultural experiences lived in Spain. To improve their oral skill they prepare 2 presentations in class about cultural topics.

Advanced Business Spanish

In this course the student will gain proficiency in the skilful use of the language and will be able to refine the tools necessary to engage native speakers into fluid conversation, and will also be able to maintain a complex argumentation.

At the end of the semester the students will be able successfully to make own communicative situations of the business world: to handle itself within the culture of the business in Spain.
