Housing Questions

1.- What is the proper etiquette at my señora´s house? How do I tell her that I don’t like something or that I need something, politely?

Here are some tips for a successful homestay:

  • You should try all of the food. If you REALLY don´t like it, you can tell your host mom nicely. It´s best to tell them because then they will not make it again.
  • It is considered rude to walk around the house barefoot so be sure to wear slippers, flip flops, or at least socks.
  • Try to treat your host mom and your apartment as you would like an exchange student to treat your family and your house.

2.- Do I need to pack bedding?

The homestay provides the students with sheets, blankets, pillow cases, a pillow and towels.

The students living in apartments will have to bring sheets, blankets, pillow cases, a pillow and towels or buy them in Barcelona. The average price for a set of beddings is 40€ to 60€.

Students living in the Colegio Mayor will have to bring sheets, pillow cases and towels. The Colegio Mayor will provide them with a pillow and a blanket.

3.- What is the extent of furnishings in the housing options? (i.e. bedding, cooking ware)

This varies from each housing option. Please see the housing section of the website or the IES Barcelona Catalalog.
