Penedés Wine Country

Catalonia has an extensive wine culture history. Nowadays it has nine wine areas where high quality wine is produced. The main area is Penedés, only some kilometres away from Barcelona. IES Barcelona offers its students the possibility to visit one of the main wineries in the area, in Vilafranca del Penedés. IES staff members will take you to a tour around the place in which you'll learn about the winemaking process, the different kinds of grapes, etc. But not only wine is produced in Catalunya: You can also have cava, the special kind of quality drink similar to champagne that has been produced in the area for long.

Besides, those who sign up for this one-day trip will get to know Sitges, one of the most famous cities in the area, close to the Mediterranean Aea. And it' s summer time, so we are sure you can really enjoy it.
