Academics

IES Barcelona offers students the opportunity of full year, one semester and summer course study in the modern and cosmopolitan city of Barcelona. You will have the chance to learn Spanish and undertake a wide range of area studies both at the IES center and at outstanding local Universities. The prospect of undertaking outside Internships and Service Learning is also widely available.

CREDIT INFORMATION (Fall & Spring)

• All students must take between 16 and 19 credits
• IES Area Studies courses are worth 3 credits each
• IES Language courses are worth 4 credits each (except the accelerated courses which are worth 7 credits)
• Most courses at local partner institutions are worth 4 credits each, with some exceptions.

• All students must take between 6 and 7 credits
• IES Area Studies courses are worth 3 credits each
• IES Language courses are worth 4 credits each (except the accelerated courses which are worth 7 credits)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS TAKING OUTSIDE COURSES:

We recommend that you purchase an airplane ticket with flexibility for changing reservations since the finals at outside institutions might be scheduled later than the official departure date.
